Below is a list of the bodies and lenses I use and as you can see, I am a firm Canon user. This sometimes to the shear horror of some of my friends who insist on using Nikon's. For the life of me, I still don't know why, but hey ho, each to their own right ;-). One piece of advice someone once gave to me was buy the best you can afford especially with lenses and I'm glad I did just that. My best friend in the bag is the 70-200mm lense, which is the one most glued to the front of my camera. That said, its probably because I like shooting wildlife and getting images of people without being in their face!

Having carried this lot around for some time now, I gave a friend of mine advice recently and told them to go with an 18-300mm lense to get them going as a beginner. That meant they could walk around with 1 lense happily shooting most subjects, whilst I carry an abundance of kit. The difference being that generally a single superzoom is decent enough for most needs but for that special shot, sometimes you just have to get picky and start to specialise in aperture and quality.
